In Memory of
Dave Laituri
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our colleague, Dave Laituri. Dave served as Vice President, SmartShape Boston and was responsible for heading our studio in Boston and working with clients and prospects in the surrounding New England area. Dave was a dedicated team member of SmartShape, valued for his wise insights, exceptional creativity and talent.

Dave battled brain and lung cancer for the last year and a half, undergoing many surgeries and treatments that afforded him more time to spend doing what he loved with those he loved most. Dave passed away peacefully in his sleep due to non-cancer related issues.

Dave leaves behind his two children, Calvin and Tanja, to mourn his great loss. Dave spent this past summer creating once in a lifetime memories with his children and exploring all the great state of Vermont has to offer. This precious time helped Dave heal from the grueling, on-going treatments of his battle against brain cancer.

Dave was an amazing father, great friend and an extraordinary design talent. He leaves a legacy of innovative problem-solving, creativity and always finding beauty in the smallest of details.

We will miss him dearly.

Dave uses his extensive experience in product design and development to connect SmartShape's capabilities with the innovation challenges facing its East Coast client partners.

Dave has designed engines for Cadillac, hardware for Apple and kitchen tools for OXO, and along the way has created award-winning innovation for 10 Fortune 100 companies, earned numerous international design awards and holds more than 40 patents.

He has taught design at universities in the United States, France, Germany & Switzerland.

In 2007, Dave launched the market's first carbon negative audio brand, Vers, resulting in a Bluetooth sound system line featured in the Apple store. In 2013, he founded Onehundred with his son, Calvin, as an experiment to design, develop and produce simple, clever products within 100 miles of Boston, launching each of them through crowd-funding events. Onehundred has since run 18 successful crowd funding campaigns, shipping to more than 80 countries.

Dave has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design from The Ohio State University, a post-graduate certificate from the Staatliche Akademie der bildenden kunste in Stuttgart, Germany and has earned his MBA from the University of Westminster in London.
